Job Definition

It is the responsibility of the detailer foreman to clean and prepare new, used and serviced vehicles and to oversee the washer.

As with all positions within dealerships, detailer foremen are expected to uphold the highest ethical standards.

Job Duties

The duties of a detailer foreman include:

  • Overseeing the cleaning of the exterior and interior of the vehicle.
  • Cleaning engine and engine compartments.
  • Inspecting vehicles for noticeable defects and restoring the appearance of engine area, rugs, upholstery and painted surfaces.
  • Replacing missing or defective small parts.
  • Restoring appearance of vehicles to new or like-new condition to the best of their ability.

Job Requirements

Good cleaning skills and the ability to follow instructions are important. Some cleaning products may be quite toxic, so detailers should have a good understanding about how to use these correctly and safely. Being well-organized and able to manage their time as well as having an eye for detail is also advantageous.

A valid driver's license and a good driving record is a requirement for this position.

People working within the automotive retail industry often have to work extended hours, evenings and weekends to achieve their goals.

Education Requirements

A high school diploma or equivalent is recommended for this position.

Automotive detailer foremen can begin training with service technicians to become an entry-level service technician.
